Our Smart Mine
As a greenfield project, Roy Hill is one of the few Australian mines with the opportunity to embed a range of technology to optimise delivery across its supply and demand chain from the outset.
The use of technology and application of innovative thinking is a defining feature of Roy Hill and our operations. We have created a high-performance environment through installing state-of-the-art facilities, within the Remote Operations Centre (ROC) and Mine Village; with a focus on integrating business systems, processes and technology to maximise efficiency.
We are an organisation that continues to challenge, adapt and modify our approach to create new ways of working to better meet the needs of the future.
Our Smart Mine Program is creating Tomorrow’s Mine, Today by working across the business to identify, develop, and deliver new solutions in four focus areas:
- Smart People – building a workforce of the future and keeping our people safe from harm. Our leaders and our people are key to creating our Smart Mine future.
- Smart Orebody – building detailed knowledge to unlock the full potential of our unique orebody.
- Smart Assets – improving productivity and safety across operations through automation and integration, in particular with our remote operations, with all drill rigs now being fully automated.
- Smart Integrated and Intelligent Systems – providing real-world digital view of the physical environment, and utilising data and integrated systems to deliver a coordinated and consistent approach to the planning and execution of operations.
Our Smart Mine program has seen us develop initiatives such as our award-winning Lightning Protection System (LPS), which has been installed at our mine. The LPS is a long-term solution to a frequent hazard that affects both our operations and people moving around the mine village during the wet season. The LPS allows people to safely move around our facilities during lightning red alerts, by capturing lightning strikes at preferred points then redirecting the energy to a grounding system. In 2018, our LPS saw us awarded the Safety and Health Resources Sector Engineering Award at the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) Awards for Excellence ceremony.
Our Career Enrichment Program provides our people with opportunities to do work experience in another field within Roy Hill, enabling them to create pathways to potential future roles. The Roy Hill Learning Community and the provision of LinkedIn Learning also provide our people with learning opportunities to build their skills and prepare themselves for the future.
